Get Testnet DIVI

Run a Divi testnet node with the Divi command line or IronDivi, make an address, and get free coins from the faucet to practise with.

About 30 minutes, most of it waiting for the node to sync · Checked 2026-10-21

1What testnet is

Testnet is a second Divi network that works like the real one, but its coins are worth nothing. Use it to try anything risky (vaults, a new wallet setup) before you do it with real DIVI.

Addresses start with
x or y
A block every
1 minute
Faucet pays
1,000 DIVI
Never send real DIVI to an x or y address

Real Divi addresses start with D. Testnet addresses only exist on testnet, and the two networks never mix.

You don't strictly need your own node: the testnet web wallet can give you an address too. Running a node is the better practice, because it is exactly how you'll work on the real network.

2Run a testnet node

Pick one. Both nodes speak the same network and take the same commands.

Option A: the Divi node (divid and divi-cli)

  1. Download Divi v3.0.0 for your computer from the official releases page. There are Linux, Mac, Windows and Raspberry Pi builds. Unpack it, find the folder that holds divid and divi-cli, and run the commands below from there.
  2. Create the settings file divi.conf in the Divi data folder:
    • Linux: ~/.divi/divi.conf
    • Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/DIVI/divi.conf
    • Windows: %APPDATA%\DIVI\divi.conf
# divi.conf: testnet
testnet=1
server=1
rpcuser=pick-a-name
rpcpassword=pick-a-long-random-password
addnode=services.divi.domains:51474

The rpcuser and rpcpassword are yours to choose; they only let divi-cli talk to your own node. Make the password long and don't reuse one.

  1. Start the node and let it sync:
./divid -daemon
./divi-cli getblockcount

Run getblockcount every few minutes. You're synced when it matches the latest block on the testnet explorer.

Where testnet keeps its files

The node puts testnet's chain and wallet in a testnet3 folder inside the data folder, apart from any real wallet. It talks to other nodes on port 51474 and to divi-cli on port 51475.

Option B: IronDivi (irondivid and irondivi-cli)

IronDivi is a Divi node written in Rust. Build it from source (you need Rust 1.75 or newer, a C compiler, and on Linux libclang-dev):

git clone https://github.com/DiviDomains/IronDivi.git
cd IronDivi
cargo build --release

That gives you target/release/irondivid and target/release/irondivi-cli. Start it on Divi testnet and check it:

./target/release/irondivid --mode divi --testnet --addnode=services.divi.domains:51474
./target/release/irondivi-cli --testnet getblockcount

Run irondivid in its own terminal window and leave it running. To protect its RPC port with a password, put rpcuser= and rpcpassword= lines in an irondivi.conf file in its testnet folder (below); irondivid and irondivi-cli both read it.

irondivi-cli takes the same commands as divi-cli, so every command below works with either one. IronDivi keeps testnet in ~/.irondivi/testnet on Linux and ~/Library/Application Support/IronDivi/testnet on a Mac, and its testnet RPC port is 51473.

3Make a testnet address

./divi-cli getnewaddress

It prints an address that starts with x or y, for example y85mC8GS4rc7JUBV428Lw3X7T6ev8yTAdN. Copy yours.

4Ask the faucet for coins

The easy way: open the testnet faucet, paste your address and press the button. It shows the transaction id when it has sent your coins.

From the command line:

curl -s https://services.divi.domains/testnet/faucet/api/check/YOUR_ADDRESS
curl -s -X POST https://services.divi.domains/testnet/faucet/api/request \
     -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
     -d '{"address":"YOUR_ADDRESS"}'

The first line tells you whether the address can ask right now. The second asks, and the answer includes the txid of the payment.

LimitToday's value
Each payout1,000 testnet DIVI
Per addressonce every 24 hours
Per network (your IP)2 payouts every 24 hours
Whole faucet50,000 a day, reset at 00:00 UTC

The live values are always at api/status.

5Watch the coins arrive

Paste the txid into the testnet explorer. At first it says Unconfirmed; once a block includes it, about a minute later, it confirms. In your wallet:

./divi-cli getwalletinfo

The 1,000 shows under unconfirmed_balance first, then moves to balance. When we ran these exact steps on 2026-10-21 the payment confirmed in about 90 seconds.

6Send them back when you're done

The faucet's coins are shared. When you've finished practising, send what's left to the faucet's return address so the next person gets some:

./divi-cli sendtoaddress yJehBfdK9KbrwPRjYrzkrPES9uG5nFLjY4 999.9

Leave a little behind for the fee: send slightly less than your balance. This is also a good first practice send.

If something goes wrong

The faucet saysWhat it means
Invalid testnet address. Must be a valid testnet address starting with 'xy'The address isn't a testnet address. It must start with x or y; a real D address won't work.
This address has already received funds. Please wait … minute(s) before requesting again.Each address gets one payout every 24 hours. Wait, or use the coins you have.
Too many faucet requests from your network. Please wait … minute(s)Your network has had its 2 payouts for the last 24 hours.
The faucet has reached its daily payout limit. Please try again after 00:00 UTC.The faucet has paid its 50,000 for today.
Faucet is waiting for stake rewards. Please try again later.The faucet is low on coins and is refilling from staking.
Transaction failed. Please try again.Sending failed on the faucet's side. Try again in a minute.
The node did not confirm the transaction in time. Check your balance before trying again.The payment may still arrive. Check getwalletinfo or the explorer before you ask again.

My node's block count isn't going up. Make sure testnet=1 is in divi.conf (or --testnet is on the IronDivi command), and that the addnode line is there. Then restart the node.
